7/24 Crunched Flight ... But in Miami

So, here I am ... bored in Miami ... Leaf's been busy ... tis' okay though. Playing with all the animal bones he's collected on his archaeological adventures. The plane trip was crazy, didn't have much room crunched up in the suitcase ... but its all good. Whew! No travels for awhile ... I hope !

Eugene, Oregon

It was a long journey but I made it to day 2 of Faerie Worlds for a few hours as we had to leave by 3:30 in order to get Talulah to her plane on time as she was off flying to Houston, Texas to counsel with the girl scouts. We piled into the rental and off we went for Day 2 of Faerie Worlds. It was an incredible day! Got treated to some fantastic pancakes and got to snuggle with FairyGirl and DarkLeaves! Yahoo!!!! Fun crowd at the camp site and even funner crowd at the fest. I was in Gnome heaven! And soon, will be off to Miami for some surf and sun, oysters and sax ...

I'm back!!!!! Off to Faerie Worlds to meet up with thomasrymour and fairygirl70 and crew to party down ... yeah ... Ireland was fun, I don't want to talk about it. Me and Esmeralda broke it off ... blah ... but after Faerie Worlds ... I'm off to Miami with Darkleaves. Gotta work on my tan, ya know!

Fairy Tree of Latoon Defies Vandal's Chainsaw

LATOON (Reuters) - A rendezvous point for warring fairies on their way back from battle in western Ireland has once again defied the odds against survival.

The legendary fairy tree of Latoon is sprouting leaves once more after a vandal armed with a chainsaw reduced it to little more than a bare stump last summer.

According to folklore, lone hawthorns were known as fairy trees and never cut down for fear of interfering with the supernatural.

However, experts fear the Emerald Isle's rich story-telling tradition may be less fortunate as the insidious influence of television and the Internet take an unwelcome toll.

A few years ago, the celebrated fairy tree of Latoon in County Clare -- a meeting place for the little folk of Munster after fighting the fairies of Connacht -- was threatened with the bulldozer to make way for a new bypass.

After storytellers warned of a curse on construction crews and motorists if the tree was uprooted, town planners agreed to divert the road in the wake of a huge public outcry.

They even went as far as to erect a wooden fence around the tree to protect it.

Other planned roads have been re-routed around fairy forts -- relics of Iron Age settlements -- in recent years given the superstition that misfortune will come to anybody who disturbs them.

The fairy tree of Latoon subsequently grew in appeal as a popular tourist attraction until last year's close shave with destruction.

"It's a funny coincidence but just over a week after it was vandalized Clare lost the all-Ireland hurling final," said traditional storyteller Eddie Lenihan, intimating that the fairies exacted their revenge on the sporting field.

NOT "DISNEY FAIRIES"

Contrary to popular belief, real fairies are not "Disney fairies" with gleaming wings and glittery wands, said Lenihan, but ferocious and bad-tempered creatures.

A former schoolteacher who has spent a lifetime collecting old stories for future generations, Linehan said he first heard about the fairy tree of Latoon from an old cattle driver more than 20 years ago.

"He said on several mornings he came to the field before walking cattle to fairs and saw this stuff with the consistency of liver but greenish in color -- in other words, fairy blood.

"Immediately, he knew that the fairies had been fighting the night before and had dragged back their wounded and dead after the battle."

Known in Ireland as a seanchai, or traditional story-teller, Lenihan has kept audiences spellbound the world over with his tales of mysterious encounters with the "other world."

Although he welcomes the fairy tree's continuing survival, he fears that Ireland's illustrious story-telling tradition is on its way out because of the country's new-found "Celtic Tiger" prosperity and a rush to embrace modern ideas and ditch the past.

"It's pointless to blame television for all of it. The simple fact is that people aren't talking to each other even in pubs.

"There's such noise levels that privacy is a thing of the past," Lenihan rued.

Ironically, foreigners are more interested these days in hearing about fairies and their shoemakers, the leprechauns, he added.

"The great shame is that folk traditions in other parts of Europe have been preserved but here people don't seem that interested."

Wow! what an incredible weekend! Good tunes.... good times. I was "home" at Northwest Herbal Faire! and Fauna ... aka "The sleeping Fairy" joined our booth for the weekend. I had such a crush on her ..... oh well ... she just slept. Blah. I party'ied down ...played my sax ... chased fairy chicks ... and jammed to the incredible music ... while Techno_gypsy slaved away at the booth. Too bad I'm too small to run the store ... hahahahahahaha ... I had a good time. Northwest Herbal Faire Folks! you rock!.

wednesday - i got to go to a nude beach.
thursday - the cutie bonefinder and traveller darkleaves took me to Lake Gibraldi in British COlumbia ... yahoo!

Upwards, me, Bonefinder, and darkleaves made our way up the richly forested trail 9 km (ca. 3 miles) to the lake. Just in time as it was getting dark. A few breaks along the hike provided us amusement, water splashing, river dipping, tree pictures, and relevant "ohhhs ... ahhhhs ... wows ......" At the lake, we played with snowball fights along the trail, watched trout swimming in the river, jaws dropped at the amazing beauty of the lake, set up our tent ....

So, me and Suicidalsuzi were chillin' to some grog and watchin' Amelie when we were in Paris ... and I got real envyious of the forest gnome that she kidnapped and took travellin' with her ... so I'm like thinkin' ... what silly human still believes in us wee folk? could they exist? and Suzi tells me there's this Techno-gypsy dude named Leaf who travels alot, and he might, be convinced to adopt me and take me on his travels ... so I got his addy from Suzi ... and off I went to BushAmerika via sea vessel ... I arrived July 1st, 2003 .... already missing the chicks in Eire ... but oh well ... new lands ... new adventures ...

So I'm crawlin' around in the bushes along the beachfront, as Suzi informed me on my PDA-connect that Leaf was gonna be at the beach ... so I stalked him and the cutie he was hangin' with. I saw them swoop into Archie McPhee's ... so I followed. Some kid caught me and thought I was a doll ... tried to take my Sax away from me ... no one touches my Sax! Egads! But I managed to sneak into Leaf's shopping basket without him noticing ... I think he thought I was a doll too ... in the car I sprung it on him and TheVFRChick ... and made new found friends .... Leaf adopted me and is takin' me on journeys ... I''m sooo excited ...
